We’ve identified eight elements that are important for you to consider when choosing an opportunity to pursue. Each of these is important, but each factor may not be as important to you as another, and as such, they aren’t in any particular order. Are you looking for more free time, or do you need to do this after hours? Schedule flexibility might be more important to you than the simplicity of how you get paid.


Additionally, we don’t just arbitrarily assign a score. As much as possible, we diligently researched these categories and looked at hard data whenever possible. We retrieved factual data on trend lines, the number of employees, salary numbers, investment figures and so on. And yes, truth be told we did have to rely on anecdotal accounts for categories not easily quantified. In the end, dear reader, we did our best to give you accurate insights, and did not rely on our intuition.

Earning Potential

Fairly self-explanatory, this factor is our assessment of how much you can earn. The higher our score, the higher the CEILLING for this side hustle, not the higher the AVERAGE. We are not focusing on the median income but the potential for top earners.

Speed to Earning

This factor is our assessment of how long it will take an average person pursuing the opportunity to reach an earning potential that will comfortably support them. A score of 10 would represent something that you could accomplish quickly, while a score of 1 may take years to achieve.

Ease of Entry

This factor is our assessment of how simple or complex, easy or hard, the opportunity is to start. The simplest is scored as a 10, while the more difficult is scored as a 1. If you need special skills to be successful, we will call them out in this section.

Knowledge Required

Fairly self-explanatory. Our scoring model places emphasis on low levels of specialized training. If it needs high levels of training the score will be low, while little or no training will results in a high score.

Schedule Flexibility

Our scoring model places a high value on flexibility. So if the opportunity is very flexible, meaning that you can work on this any time you want, it will rate higher. If it demands that you must perform a specific schedule, then it will rate much lower.

Investment Required

The scoring places a high valueon low investment cost. If it will cost you a lot then it will receive a low score. If the costs to start are low or non-existent then it will be scored highly.

Supply vs. Demand

We want to identify opportunities that have room for competition and also a steady demand for the product or service. Is the opportunity filled with competitors where nobody wants the product or service? Then the score will be low.

Payment Simplicty

Collections can be the death of a startup entrepreneur. If it’s easy to get paid the score will be high, if you have to extend payment terms to your customers the score will be low.
