Fantastic experience Wooden Shoe Workshop of Zaanse Schans: Dutch clogs are a type of footwear made in part or completely from wood. Clogs, or wooden shoes, are known as klompen in Dutch, and they have been used in the Netherlands since medieval times. A good place to both understand Dutch wooden shoes history and buy their homemade shoes. Plenty of choices you can pick here. A free museum, you can also see a live demonstration of how they make the clogs (in English). There’s also a shop inside where you can buy clogs or other souvenirs . The visit took about 30 minutes. Fantastic experience. When you enter the shop you will see displays of old machinery and half made shoes Then you can see different types of clogs.

Zaanse Schans and Giethoon Our guide Said was friendly and knowledgeable. He got our small group into the van and safely to the windmills in the pouring rain. We had plenty of time there to visit the cheese making display and tour the windmills extensively. After that we took a drive to the canal town of Giethoon( it was long enough for a nice nap). Once on the boat we had tea and stroopfwafle to compliment our peaceful cruise. Also grabbed frites and sat out in the (by then) afternoon sun. On our way back we did a little detour and stopped at a farm to sample the apples. A really nice day and a great time.

A day trip you must do Giethoorn is one of a kind, cute little village. A day trip you must do. Left around 10.30 and came back to Amsterdam about 6.30. The company delivered as promised, no secret charges. Said, our tour guide, was friendly, helpful, great sense of humour and very informative about the history of Netherlands, Amsterdam and Giethoorn too.

Geithoorn Tour from Amsterdam The visit to this charming town called the Venice of the North was very interesting. The canal boat ride (included) was informative and lasted just about an hour. However, I wouldn’t call this a tour, but more just transportation to the town. We were a small group and the driver was professional and safe, but there was no information or narration other than what the canal skipper offered. Other than the boat ride, the rest of the day was free time. There are several nice restaurants for lunch and many places for an interesting walk and photography, but everything other than the canal boat was on our own.

Lovely tour to the village of Giethoorn Giethoorn is called the Venice of the North, but unlike the real Venice Giethoorn is very peaceful and quiet. It feels like you’re in a fairytale village where time has stopped. There are many old farms and cute bridges. Our tourguide Said picked us up near the central station of Amsterdam. He entertained us from the first moment. On the way to Giethoorn we made a stop to take pictures of the largest lake of the Netherlands. Once we arrived in Giethoorn we took a one hour boat tour and afterwards we had some free time to wander around. Said doesn’t only know Giethoorn, but is also very knowledgeable on the city of Amsterdam. He gave us many tips on what to do and where to eat while staying in Amsterdam. Thanks for the wonderful experience Said!
