Find Your ADHD Gifts: Command Your Future

Maybe you told yourself you wouldn’t eat sugar for a month, or that you would volunteer once a week this year. As human beings, it’s hard to practice self control. Period. Regardless of the activity. Think about how many New Year’s Resolutions don’t stick. Why is that?

Self control, like anything else in life that we want to become good at takes practice. I think people forget that it’s a skill that has to be developed. And like anything else that we want to become good at in life, we need to do it over and over again. Until it becomes a habit.

You’re the owner of your brain. But it goes deeper than that, you’re the owner of --The “you.” There isn’t another you. There never has been and never will be. Relish in that. Cherish it. Use it as motivation to become whatever it is that you want to become.

What if… what others see as a deficit, a handicap to be “overcome,” you were able to find benefits?

What if… instead of feeling that ADHD is holding you back, you learned how it can put you ahead of the pack?

What if… there were a key to unlocking the gifts ADHD and how to use them to command your future?

Find Your Gifts: Command Your Futre is the only ADHD online academy that focuses on gifts and is developed by a Ph.D. psychologist. A self-paced online academy for those persist in the face of discouragement. In a world where ADHD is a stigma, we see neurodiversity.

You may look around you and see relationships difficulties, professional failures, and a trail of catastrophic mistakes caused by sloppiness. In this six week coaching program you will find a warm, supportive voice encouraging you to find your gifts, talents and interests and giving you dozens of tools to help you focus and overcome resistance.

It's Time to Turn the Bus Around!

You will learn to define yourself by strengths rather than weaknesses.

"The Gift Of ADHD" is brilliant, soulful, and insightful. Thank you for writing it!"
- Benny Rietveld ‏ - Grammy-winning bass player and Musical Director for Santana

Go for it. And while you’re at it, stop and smell the roses. This is the mixed message of our culture. The problem is, stopping and smelling the roses can be a thorny business for ADD adults.. Fire. Ready, , Aim. That’s the credo for many who live with ADD.

ADHD is both a blessing and a curse, sometimes a brutal one. I won't glamorize ADHD.

I know what you're thinking.

I don’t like to say, “I have a disorder.”…It’s not fun to say “I have a disorder” – does that mean I can’t succeed? Am I already getting off on the wrong foot? It’s really defeating to think that I don’t have what everybody else has. I still have the perception that I am someone talented… This idea that I’m not talented makes me sick."

Finding and focusing on the gifts can create a different future for you. So, if you’re tempted to doubt, remember: changing the way you see yourself can change you and your life. Don’t allow yourself to be distracted or derailed by what you see around you now.

“Dr. Lara Honos-Webb shows us how the demands of a global and digital culture may make the signature traits of ADD – inventiveness, need for stimulation, and interpersonal intuition – in high demand.” Daniel H. Pink, author of A Whole New Mind

“This book will encourage your brain and your soul.  Dr. Honos-Webb will show you how to find the promise in ADD and powerful tools for managing the pitfalls.” Daniel G. Amen, MD Amen Clinics and author of Healing ADD

I want to thank you from the deepest parts of my soul. Your perspectives and insights on ADD communicated to me a sense of home. A feeling that all of those pieces of me that always felt disconnected with the world may have had a purpose and commonalities with others after all. John Emerson

But this book was beyond beneficial and the best place I ever could have started to learn about how I am uniquely wired. And to view that uniqueness with not only its challenges, but with all the special privileges it provides as well. It is truly more of a blessing than a challenge and has been most of my life. ..... Thank you so much for providing a viewpoint that allowed me to not shut down, be hurt, feel “found out”, ....Read the book. And read it again. LuvYourselfMore

" I know this sounds super corny but if everyone with ADD could learn what you've written about, the stigma will change towards people with ADD. I just finished chapter 4 of your book and I can already see myself improving in my professional and personal life." - Reed W.

You will also find answers to common questions and you might find your own questions there. That will be followed on some tips and tools for finding a gold standard diagnosis. The first step before treatment is to become aware that it is likely that many children and adults are misdiagnosed with ADHD. Remember, the diagnosis of ADHD can follow your child the rest of his or her life. If he has ADHD the diagnosis will open the door to accommodations in school and appropriate treatments including medications if he or she is failing to make essential developmental leaps. If your child does not have ADHD, he or she may subjected to unnecessary medication treatment but may begin to believe that something is wrong with him. Also troubling is the idea that if it’s not ADHD, then some other cause of inattention and disruptive behavior is not being addressed. For example, if a 5 year old child is getting 8 hours of sleep they are far below the recommended minimum hours of sleep for that age. In some cases simply making the change of getting the minimum number of hours of sleep can improve all symptoms. If a child has emotional conflicts that create the symptoms, that the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD will not resolve those conflicts and you can predict problems will continue to get worse.

Once you have determined that you child does have ADHD, it is important that as a parent you become an advocate for your child. You need to ask your child’s teachers what they can do to support your child. Adjustments in the classroom can make big differences in your child’s performance at school. Additionally, your child knows if you have her back or not. Knowing you are going to bat for her, she will have more motivation to achieve.

With both adults and children, an important treatment for improving level of functioning is to increase emotional intelligence. You will find a tool for use with adults or can easily be adapted to children for increasing your emotional intelligence and reducing impulsiveness. Finally, you’ll have a chance to dig a little deeper about a broad paradigm shift in ADHD, not only by finding and focusing on gifts, but in the latest science on the capacity to change the brain through effort. This new research will open up more effective treatments and approaches to ADHD.

We will give you quick tips for enhancing your performance. Baseball players take steroids as performance enhancers, college students use stimulants during finals week as performance enhancers, speakers use beta blockers as performance enhancers. These tips and tools are all natural performance enhancers with only positive side effects. Some are basic reminders of stress management basics and some are tools for what to say to yourself to get the best results.

YOU ARE ABOUT TO BEGIN A JOURNEY

Just as Dorothy needed allies as she traveled down the yellow brick road, you will need to have yours too. The most important ally is......FLEXIBILITY.

I challenge you to practice flexible thinking. If an idea presented contradicts something you’ve heard elsewhere, rather than rigidly arguing about which viewpoint must be the correct one, ask yourself, “Is there a way both of these could be true?” For example, this course invites you to think optimistically about who you are and what you are capable of. You may at times resist this invitation, worrying that if you think only of the positive you won’t take responsibility for impulsive behaviors. Ask yourself, “Is there a way I can reframe my impulsiveness and still take responsibility for my behavior?” Push yourself to find ways to think in terms of “both/and” rather than “either/or.”

Similarly, when you hear that you need to find a career that honors your ADD style, you may think, “Are you telling me I need to lower my standards?” No. Again, push yourself to find ways that you can both honor your ADD and raise your standards. There is no reason you can’t do both. In practice, as you stop trying to cram yourself into a mold that doesn’t work for you, you’ll move from simply fulfilling performance demands toward becoming a genius in your arena of interest.
