Over twenty years ago my artist husband Drew Brophy and I tried to get his surf inspired art series into galleries.  We were told by one gallery owner “no gallery will ever accept your art.”

Instead of fighting the system, we decided to create our own art exhibition.  We rented a space in our hometown for a month and advertised in our local newspaper.  We sold ten paintings on opening night! And that was without any help from any gallery or agent.  

That was back in 1998, and since then, we have put on dozens of our own art shows and sold hundreds of thousands of dollars in artwork without having to pay a dime to a gallery.
